The 2019 IASB/IASA/IASBO Annual Conference kicks off this Friday in Chicago. There are several opportunities to connect with Whitt Law attorneys. On Friday, Whitt Law will host its annual reception at the Hyatt Regency Chicago. This is a great opportunity to connect with our clients, associates, and others whose work impacts school districts. This year, Whitt Law will also have copies of materials from various presentations Whitt Law attorneys have made throughout the year. On Friday, at 2:00 p.m., Stuart Whitt and Tom Gray will present in the Hyatt Regency West Tower Regency A-B on “Pensions, Caps, Salaries, Buy-Outs, & Budgets.”  They will be joined by the Honorable Representative Lamont Robinson (House District 5) and the Honorable Mark Batinick (House District 97).  During this session, attendees will receive timely and valuable information on the current state of TRS, new laws impacting TRS-related issues and their impact on school districts, TRS members and local communities, collective bargaining, and what school districts might anticipate from the General Assembly.  You can contact any of Whitt Law’s attorneys with questions regarding this presentation or for more information.

On Saturday at 3:30pm, James Dougherty, Brian Bare, and Dr. Kristin Humphries will present “What To Do When The Media Circus Arrives.” Brittany Flaherty Theis will moderate the session. When the media shines the spotlight on your district, local stories can quickly become statewide or national news. How you respond could make all the difference. During this session, the panel will cover best practices and pitfalls in responding to reporters, FOIA requests, and student records requests.
